A
very special tour to the heritage sites of St. Ann Parish. An
educationally rich experience. In 1494, Christopher Columbus
landed along the coast of St. Ann and begun a new chapter in the
island’s heritage and that of the new world. Share in this legacy on
an exciting tour of the heritage sites of St. Ann.
The tour begins with a visit to the statue and home of National Hero
and founder of one of the largest negro movements in the world, the
Rt. Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey. It continues to other attractions and
points of interests such as the town’s harbour where the search for
Columbus’s sunken ships and its treasures is on-going.
Other highlights include a tour of the ruins of the first Spanish
capital in Jamaica, Maima Seville. A visit to the Seville Great House
and museum provides a quick trip back in time to the island’s
colonial and pre-colonial periods.
A delicious Jamaican lunch precedes the next stop, at the Cranbrook
Estate. Its beautifully landscaped gardens and parks and meandering
cool mountains streams, offer a great chance for a swim, some fun and
relaxation. A tour of the property and great house completes the
heritage experience and precedes the return journey along the very
scenic coastline of northern Jamaica. |

Three
famous cultural attractions grouped together for a ShoreTrips
EXCLUSIVE tour. Your driver will not have to explain a lot to
you about what you are going to see, because this tour is more visual
than intellectual. It will be a very nice, relaxing day... driving
through the Jamaican countryside... up hills and through glorious
valleys (perhaps thru the Fern Gully, if time permits).
The road to this workshop is rough, but then, what road isn't in
Jamaica. Well worth it is this stop at the "factory" for
Jamaica's famous pottery. Not only can you meet the artists, watch
them create ceramics and paint them, but you can buy them. The helpful
staff will mail your selections home. That's right - no duty, no
schlepping, no breakage!
Your second stop is another wonderful gallery called Harmony Hall. The
place is charming with an outside bar serving drinks and fruit
punches, a little restaurant, and a large gallery space upstairs in
this Victorian-style mansion. It's inventory is so large that I felt
as if I was in a museum. "This charming gallery is the only
outlet outside of Kingston to feature regular exhibitions and leading
Jamaican artists." Caribbean Travel & Life.
Last but not least, Firefly, the former home of playwright and
songwriter Noel Coward. Firefly is now a national monument, with an
exhibition of Sir Noel's life and works which he has authored and
painted. It also gives you a spectacular view.

Enjoy
a relaxing and scenic ride down the famous Martha Brae. Your
trip begins at the cruise pier as you make your way through the
Jamaican countryside from Ocho Rios to the Martha Brae. Although the
purpose of this transfer is to take you to the site of the rafting
trip, the ride along the coastline will take you through small towns
and allow you to truly see how interesting Jamaica is.
The rafting trip down this 3-mile stretch of the well-known Martha
Brae is one of the most exhilarating in Jamaica. The journey takes
about 90 minutes on the long, 2 person bamboo rafts poled by your
skilled guide. The upper reaches tumble at a good pace before slowing
farther down river where you stop at "Tarzan's Corner" for a
swing and a swim in a calm pool.
After the relaxation of the Martha Brae, enjoy your ride back to Ocho
Rios where you will have time to do a little shopping.
You might plan to enjoy a snack at either location, where the choices
of local food is bountiful. Your food is not included in the price. |

OCHO RIOS K. Schaefbauer - Martha Brae River
Rafting Excursion & Dunn's River Falls |
This is a great
story...The ship has this line of people waiting to get off of
the ship and meet their guides. We look and here is a guy
holding a sign with our name on it. Our party of 4 said
"excuse us" as we walked past the lines & got to our private
car and driver. That's right, just 5 of us total. Lewis was
really outgoing & gave us several options throughout the day.
Our first stop was the Martha Brae River. It is a bamboo raft
(like a gondola). The driver dropped us off at the beginning &
another guide took us down the river. Along the way were
beautiful scenery, little shops, and beverage stands. It was
soooooo relaxing! At the end, our driver met us & took us to
Dunns River Falls. We decided not to climb them so he took us
to a spot for great pictures. Then we went to a really nice
restaurant overlooking the ocean for the best Jerk Chicken.
From there we did a little shopping, BUT this was unique... He
took us to shops he knew had good deals (again, we bypassed
all of the ship's lines). The guys were given beers, while us
women shopped. Then Lewis dropped us off at the ship & we went
on board (again, you got it, we bypassed all the ship's
lines).
ShoreTrips is the only way to go for a fun, no hassle, no
lines vacation to see all the beauty these islands have to
offer. Thanks for everything!! |

Two
wonderful stops make this drive in the Jamaican countryside a lifetime
memory. Two of our favorite spots in Ochi make up this tour and
we think they go together. The first is only 550 ft. above sea level
yet boasts of stunning aerial views of town. Shaw Park Botanical
Gardens is the former grounds of a long-gone hotel and the 25-acre
gardens are resplendent with unusual flowers. You can walk through on
your own but we suggest you take along one of the gardeners-cum-guides
who will initiate you into the wonders of tropical horticulture. Don't
be surprised if you watch a wedding from a distance as we did; this
setting is so popular for celebrations.
Your second stop is a place I visited first in 1981 and it is embedded
in my memory forever. It is Firefly, the Jamaican home of Noel Coward.
It surprises me how many people are unaware of it and yet I will
always flash back on that visit as a favorite in my list of travel
experiences. The home remains much as Mr. Coward left it. His studio
is still set up with a painting on the easel. The drawing room, where
he entertained Joan Sutherland, Sophia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn, to
name a few, continues to house two pianos. Mr. Coward passed away in
this house and is buried on the grounds. After that visit, I have
always felt a greater affinity to any mention of his name and more
understanding of his massive talent. |

The
only Reggae tour that includes a visit to IREE FM...the radio station
that started it all. Today will be spent discussing the history
and effects of reggae music. Just by traveling through the Jamaican
country side will give you insight into how and why this music got
started. Reggae is everywhere on this island. You'll hear it blasting
from every bar you pass as you make your way well inland to Nine Mile,
the birthplace and resting place of Bob Marley.
We will try to stop at two other points of interest, the first being
IREE-FM radio station in Ocho Rios. This will be a quick tour... we
doubt if anyone will actually lecture you. But you will get an idea of
how the music culture exists here. A donation to the radio station's
charity will be given in your name.
Down the road from IREE-FM and in the center of Ocho Rios is Jack
Ruby's nightclub. If he's there... or anyone else, for that matter,
we'll stop. Nothing will be going on, but it will make a nice Kodak
moment.
Your guide will perhaps drop you off at a shopping area near the
cruise ship pier... or will drop you off at the pier. It's up to you.

Learn
the history of Jamaica from atop your trusy steed. Take a
horseback ride through history. The ride begins at a site of great
historical significance. It was at the Seville Property that 3 very
different cultures coexisted for many years. You will learn about the
Tainos, who originally settled the island more than 1,000 years ago,
and the Europeans and Africans who have all contributed to the culture
that is Jamaica today.
But this trip isn't just history. A ride along the waters edge of a
deserted sandy beach with just you and the birds will make for a
memorable ride. Take a break and enjoy the fresh squeezed limeade as
well as a taste of plantain and saltfish or purchase light snacks and
drinks. And finally, the moment you've been waiting for, you and your
horse will trot in the surf, an unforgettable experience! |

See
the beautiful mountains of Jamaica and learn the bush doctor's
treatment for what ails you. This is not the Jamaica you see
while sitting on a beach chair drinking a Red Stripe! What you will
see from your lofty perch at 1,800 feet above sea level are the
spectacular views of the majestic Blue Mountains, the green, green
Claremont valley and 20 miles of gorgeous coastline.
As you take in the real Jamaica atop your equine mount, your guide
will explain how local plants are used to treat those minor aches and
pains of everyday life. Then a stop for a cooling drink of fresh
limeade and a taste of bammy, plantain and sweet potato. Enjoy
learning about rural life and relish the peace and tranquility that
surrounds you.
This is a beautiful ride that we cannot usually offer - that's because
many of the islands are not as lush as Jamaica. Take advantage while
you can!
